Biography

Louis Angles was appointed as Associate Circuit Judge, Division 7, in Liberty, Clay County, Missouri in 2013. The voters retained him in 2016, 2020, and 2024.

Born in Havana, Cuba, Judge Angles and his family settled in Kansas City in 1960 after escaping communism. He became a U.S. citizen in 1965 and is fluent in Spanish. From 1976 to 1979, he served on active duty in the United States Marine Corps, receiving an honorable discharge.

Judge Angles received a bachelor of science degree in pharmacy from UMKC in 1983 and was licensed as a registered pharmacist, working primarily in hospital pharmacy. A juris doctor degree was also received from Washburn University in Topeka, Kansas, in 1987. Prior to becoming a judge, Judge Angles worked as a lawyer in solo practice in Excelsior Springs, Missouri for about 25 years.

As a guest lecturer, he has spoken at UMKC law school on practice and procedure in Associate Circuit courts. He is a member of several professional organizations, including the Missouri Bar Association, the Clay County Bar Association, and the Hispanic Bar Association of Greater Kansas City. Judge Angles and his wife have six children and three grandchildren.
